In my rather extensive hospital experiences over the last year, I have learned a few things, which should cover most of the situations you will encounter there:
- If a nurse or doctor says, "Do it", do it. They know better. You don’t.
- If they ask, "Would you like to do it?" what they really mean is "Do it." So do it.
- If you don’t quite understand why they are telling you to do something, ask. Accept their answer, then do it.
- If you need something, or feel anything unusual, call the nurse. It may be nothing, but that is what they are there for. And of course, whatever they suggest, do it.
It’s surprising how many people fail to master these simple rules. They will make your hospital stay happier, and your homecoming healthier.
One more: If you are expecting a modicum of modesty or privacy in the hospital setting, I suggest you not get sick.
